Carmel Public Library Foundation Friends of Harrison Memorial Library Volunteers

Friends of Harrison Memorial Library

Friends of Harrison Memorial Library is a non-profit volunteer organization established in 1972 to provide support for library activities and help purchase needed books and equipment.

The major fundraiser of this group is the wonderful book sale, held for three days during the month of August in Carmel.

In memory of Lucette Kenan

This summer the library lost a true friend in Lucette Kenan. Lucette taught French in the United States for many years and was the author of numerous books and text books. She volunteered with the Friends of HML and shared her literary skills with the community as editor of the Friends' newsletters. Many people have told us how much they enjoyed Lucette's newsletters. Recently a collection of them was found. They are as interesting today as they were when she wrote them. We will periodically share these on the library website. Here's the first edition. If you love books and libraries, you'll want to check these out.

 Annual Book Sale

NEXT SALE:

August 19, 20, & 21, 2010

at the Murphy Center (the gym) at Junipero Serra School

Members of the Friends collect, sort, and price donated books all year and then hold a sale in August.   Close to 10,000 books, paperbacks, and audio and video tapes are available.  The sale is a lively, friendly event in a lovely setting. The proceeds are donated to the library.

You can donate books to our Book Sale by dropping them off at Sunset Center (San Carlos and 10th) on Tuesday mornings between 10:00 and 12:00.  We will also pick your books up.  To schedule a pick-up, call Ann Rurka at 625-3418.  No condensed books, text books, records, or magazines, please.

In addition to the fundraiser, the Friends promote awareness of the library in our community by  hosting  author programs for the public and sponsoring a bookmark contest for area youth.

Members of the Friends of the Library receive announcements of author programs and an invitation to the "Friend's Preview" for the annual book sale.

Annual dues are $10. To become a member of the Friends of Harrison Memorial Library  contact: Carol Fredericksen, Membership Chairman, at (831) 626-9067 or mail your name, address and dues to:
