Instructions for Summer
Reading Program
We are doing
things a little differently this
summer (we got creative!).
The whole first week of the
summer reading club,
Monday June 22 through Saturday
June 27 will be spent on
registering for our program.
When you register, you make a
promise for how much you will
read during our program. Be
Creative! It can be 20 pages a
day, 1 book a week, or 1 hour a
day. Choose whatever works for
you. For babies/toddlers, it can
be books that are read to them.
Write down the titles in your
reading record.
Each week of
the summer reading program,
starting Monday June 29,
children will bring in their
reading record to the youth
desk, show us that they
fulfilled their promise, and get
a fun prize!
Each child is to
get one prize for keeping their
reading promise, every week. In
special cases, some children may
sign up and then go away for a
few weeks. If you keep your
reading promise and record your
reading in your log book, you
can still collect prizes,
providing they are still
available.
We want to keep
you reading through the summer!
Don't forget the Design a
Bookmark Contest, and most of
all, have fun!
BE CREATIVE - BOOKMARK CONTEST!
Yeah! The
bookmark contest is back,
sponsored by the Friends of the
Library and us! It will run the
same time as the Summer Reading
Club, from June 22 through
August 1. Three winners will be
chosen, and winners will receive
a $25.00 gift certificate and their own
supply of their bookmarks!
Winners will be announced in
September. We
will also give out their
bookmarks at the Park Branch and
at the Main Library. The form
will be available starting June
22. You can enter up to 3 times!
Good Luck!

Teen Volunteers!
We are looking
for teen volunteers to help us
with our summer reading program.
Volunteers are needed to take
attendance, help with set-up,
etc, and can watch the
performers. Please contact Pat
at 624-4664 if you are
interested. Volunteer - it
will look good on your college
application!

schoolers is taking the summer
off. See you in September!
Read to a Dog
We thrilled that Maggie and Kasey
are regular visitors to the Park
Branch. Maggie
and Kasey are Samoyeds who
compete in dog shows and have
won many awards. Maggie is a
therapy dog and her brother
Kasey is in therapy dog
training. Reading to a dog helps
instill confidence and improves
reading skills. Plus it is fun
to have a furry, tail-wagging,
non-judgmental listener! They
will be with their handlers
Patti and Michael Emmett.
Maggie and Kasey are taking a
well deserved break, and will be
back with us starting in
September.
Have a great summer Maggie and
Kasey!
